The Inconvenient Details

When you finish reading this, you will understand why renting the Chop-Chop HD camera body and Powerscope Anamorphic lenses is your best option.

The MK II is NOT a motion picture camera by design.   The Canon 5-D MK II is a still photography camera that has the ability to shoot 1080P at 24 fps (23.98).  The aspect ratio of the chip is 3:2... 3 tall and 2 wide which makes it ideal for anamorphic 2.35 lenses in the Russian Moscow Mount

The Russian mount has a longer flange focal distance than PL which makes the rear of the lens further away from the chip for complete coverage.

Let's make a Chop-Chop

  • Remove the Canon lens mount

  • Take out the SLR mirror.  This must be preformed by a Canon Tech and voids the warrantee

  • Remove various internal parts like the sensors.

  • Machine a new stainless steel PL, Russian or BNCR female lens mount.  This mount must attach to the support bracket because the four front mounting screws go into plastic on the camera body.

  • The 1.8  pound camera and 1.6 pound lens support are now a permanent system.

  • Install the lens mount with special stainless steel screws

and adjust the flange focal distance.  Flange focal distance is critical and must have a

side to side and up and down taper to less than   0.0004 in or

0.01mm

  • You must now use a PL or Russian Moscow Mount female to utilize the full 3:2 chip for 2.35 anamorphic lenses

Ken the footage was great.  We got the flares we were looking for.  The MV will be on MTV and BET in a few weeks.

I'll work on getting you some samples when they've gone through editorial.

Hey Ken, we just wrapped on the shoot, everything went great and we could not have been happier with the Lomo anamorphic lens rental.

I Just wanted to thank you again for access to your LOMO's. We've shot with them in challenging conditions and have found them outstanding, delivering stunning imagery all around.  The LOMOs exhibit classic anamorphic bokeh and flare just enough so you can also extract blue horizontal flaring should you choose to. They're incredibly flexible, true main unit optics - just what the doctor ordered
